Recommended Gear

For Horses
Saddle (required)

Sue recommends Fallis Balanced Saddles, but what the rider currently uses should work. English and western saddles are acceptable.

Bridle

with Dee Ring or full cheek snaffle bit (non/leverage), leverage bits may be used if horse is adequately prepared. Check with Sue for recommended bits.

Split reins

are preferred. Length for most horses should be about 7.5’, but may need to be shorter or longer depending on the horse’s size.

Running Martingale

should be adjusted 1” below horse’s throatlatch when rings are pulled up tight. (may also need rein stops with martingale).

Drop Noseband or Cavesson Noseband

Either one should be adjusted so you can slip a finger or two under it at the nose. The drop noseband is placed below the bit and goes on last – over the bridle. A cavesson should be placed a few inches above the bit and goes on before the bridle. Make sure that either one does not cause a pinch of skin to be created between the noseband and the bit when the reins are being pulled.

For Riders
Slick Soled Boots*

suitable for riding are required (ideally slip-on boots, not lace-up, and should have a slick sole, no waffle or tread patterns).

Long pants/jeans*

suitable for riding.

Helmets

are encouraged for all riders, and required for riders under 18.

*Long pants/jeans and boots required for handling clinics
